Shadowbringers boring. 0 metanarrative never materializes, there is a pretty major callback to what most XIV players before thought was a complete waste of their time: the Crystal Tower raids. Shadowbringers was amazing from start to finish. Go here, gain favour from locals, get some sappy side story. Shadowbringers felt very repetitive of earlier themes and took far too long to get going, and then abruptly ending with being particularly disappointing. Evil just for the sake of evil? Comeeee on. It's just that boring and pointless. And since then it went downhill so hard that I can barely bring myself to Shadowbringers was, atmospherically, about people trying to make the best of it in a dying world. I just got to Thavnair after doing the Old Sharlayan quests and it is so bad. Though if you don't read and get involved with what you read, even the well-written expansions like Heavensward and Shadowbringers will be severely less impactful.
